We are thankful for ...

One of our family traditions before our evening meal – our way of “giving thanks” is for each person around the meal table to name one thing in the day they are thankful for.
Upon arrival at our Underground Motel in Coober Pedy, the excitement of the boys in particular was palpable. After  18 consecutive nights sleeping in a tent, going from main meal to main meal (without the inevitable “snacking” that is the domain of teenage boys) and with bathroom facilities that have ranged from excellent (Birdsville) to non-existent, the boys embraced the couches, TV and showers with wholehearted abandon! Marilyn and I visited the supermarket and were like kids in a toy shop as we spent up on biscuits and dips and potato chips and BBQ shapes and a whole manner of other goodies to bring back to our offspring.
We spent the afternoon gorging ourselves whilst watching the netball grand final (that sadly the Vixens lost) and listening to the footy (that sadly the Saints lost). We also made the most of having mobile and (subsequently) internet reception.
By the time we got to dinner, the pizza that we bought – called the “Coat of Arms” after its key ingredients, emu and kangaroo – remained only half eaten; an unusual occurrence in our household of ravenous males!
There is much to be thankful for.

Peter: I am thankful to be able to sleep in a comfortable bed, without having to set up tents, and to be able to shower both morning and night without having to walk across a campsite armed with most of my belongings (and hoping I haven’t forgotten my towel)!
Marilyn: Walking into the IGA and seeing pallet after pallet of fruit and vegetables.  Now my children won't get scurvy!

Nicholas: I am thankful for the complementary breakfast, power points that allow me to charge my computer and through that my iPod. And the cave we are living in because it stays the same temperature no matter how hot or cold it is outside.
Ryan: I am thankful for having couches to lounge around and sit on, food to eat whenever we want and having a hot shower under the same roof!
Jackson:  I am thankful for the fact that I am not hungry while dad is cooking dinner and for being able to relax on a couch!

Marilyn & I did miss seeing the stars at night through our tent window ...

Do you check your emails at all? Because both Simon and I have tried to contact Nick, using the family email. It is particularly important for me, as I am currently writing down ideas of mine for different parts of the film. If I get no reply by Friday next week, I'll have to write it by myself, which is fine but I'd rather involve Nick in the screenwriting of our film. Nick will know what I'm talking about.
