Day 16
Distance travelled: 5km
We woke after a little sleep in. After a short breakfast, we booked a flight over Lake Eyre for 10:30. So, at 10:20, we drove out to the airport, a small building with a few small planes and a single runway. The flight lasted about two hours. We flew all the way over the biggest salt lake in the world! It was amazing!! There was some water in the lake, but it was only about 30% full. The salt was an amazing white, with traces of pink throughout. The occasional island was sand, except for one, which was rocky. We were lucky enough to see some camels on the ground! The plane averaged an average speed of around 200kmh but reached about 250kmh one point. Once we reached the ground, Mum and I felt a bit queasy, but we had an awesome experience!
The rest of the day was spent resting and relaxing in the warm weather!
Distance travelled: 142km
We packed up and left Maree. Our next stop was Coward Springs, but we did stop on the way. First, for lunch, we stopped at a Lake Eyre lookout. We ate lunch and walked down to the water. It was incredibly muddy! The water was shallow. We were about twenty meters out in the water and it was ankle deep, but the mud made up for it. We just kept sinking! It was great!!!
We continued our journey to Coward Springs. When we arrived, we set up and straight away, and I went straight to the spring! (After we were set up of course) It was amazing!!!!!!! It was only small, but it was warm and relaxing! I spent the rest of the afternoon in there!
Day 18
Distance travelled: 75km
We woke up and Mum, Dad and I went straight to the spring, because we were told it was warmest in the morning. It was still great! But hard to get out into the cold weather. We went back to camp and over breakfast we decided to move on to William Creek. So, another pack up and short car trip to William Creek.
We had lunch at the William Creek Hotel before setting up camp. We then spent the rest of the day writing postcards, updating journals and playing table tennis. I beat Dad at table tennis for the first time on the trip!
It's July 22nd here. Bloomin' Saints!!! Sometimes I'm really glad Adelaide was forced into the AFL at virtual gun-point, and today is one of those days. The Saints had to beat Sydney to put Adelaide top. When John and I left for church at about 3:40, they were only 4 points behind, and the 'experts'n the radio agreed that the Saints looked like snatching it. By the time we rreache Mooroolbark and dropped John off Sydney was 20 odd points in front. Game set and match. You, Persongolds, have chosen the better part by far.
