King Valley

The first night of our Easter “practice trip” – an opportunity to test our equipment and processes before we head off around Australia at the start of July.
Easter is not the time to “get away from it all”! The normally appropriately named “Gentle Annie Caravan Park” is packed full and we were serenaded until well into the night with thumping bass-lines from the greatest hits of the 70s and 80s. Marilyn and I, from inside the confines of our tent, played “spot the bass line” as we were regaled by such memorable numbers as “Mamma Mia”, “Raspberry Beret”, “Werewolves of London” and “Convoy”.
Sunrise was far more peaceful as I got up just in time to photograph the low-lying mist as it hung over the paddocks in this beautiful valley. We are camped under a mighty oak tree between the King River and the road. It was a clear, cold night and the full moon shone brightly. The inside of our tent lit up every time a car made its way around the curve beside us.
As I type, the sun has risen over the gums on the other side of the river. We have had our fill of porridge and coffee and the boys are playing cards inside their tent. Marilyn and I plan to attend an Easter Sunday service at a little Anglican church up the road. The boys, having endured both Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services, would rather have root canal surgery than go to church again, and have elected to spend the morning climbing trees and chasing cows.
Happy Easter!
