The Rock (Jackson)

Brr...Why does it have to be so cold!? Mum, Dad and I walked up to a lookout at sunrise. We could see Uluru from there. It was going to be the start to a warm, tiring day. A few hours later the whole family went to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre at Uluru where we read stories and information, such as the creation story of Uluru.
We then went to the rock and were deciding whether to climb or not. I didn’t feel like climbing unless mum and dad were there because there was a bit at the start that looked really hard. In the end mum and dad didn’t want to but Ryan and Nick did. I wanted to if I could get up the first bit but in the end I didn’t go.
We watched Ryan and Nick for a while, then drove around the rock and went to a lookout on the other side of the rock where you could see Uluru and the Kata Tjutas. By the time we got back, Ryan and Nick were almost down and I went up to meet them.
After lunch we then did a 10km walk around the base of Uluru. It was long and tiring, but very interesting. There were lots of caves that had Aboriginal paintings and with signs that spoke of Aboriginal culture.
This evening we went to a sunset viewing area and watched Uluru change colour. Dad cooked steaks so we could have steak sandwiches for dinner.
The last thing we did was drive around the base of the rock one more time to say goodbye.

  1. Well done on climbing The Rock boys. Word is The Rock will be forever closed for climbing in the very near future. This hike will certainly be one that you are happy to have undertaken as you get older and look back.
Keep the trip reports coming in.
I am enjoying the adventure with you.
    Regards Peter Fox
