The best bit of yesterday was the Waka Clay Pan. It was quite a shock coming from rugged barren land covered in grasses and small shrubs over a rise and into the clay pan which was utterly barren of all life. There was a base of reddish yellow sand and was surrounded by a rise that was covered by greenery.
The Waka Clay Pan is an ephemeral lake, it comes when there is lot of rain but most of the time it is a dry lake bed. It is completely flat and even when it’s full it is very shallow. In one part of the lake there was a series of rises that where completely out of place and quite odd. Ryan and Jackson ran over to them in the hope of beating dad in the car to the other side and I was taking pictures and making half joking comments about how good this place would be to learn to drive. Then suddenly out of the blue Dad says to me to hop behind the wheel and get ready for my first driving lesson. I. WAS. STUNNED!
The first thing I learned was how to get moving. The combination of bringing out the clutch and pushing in the accelerator is difficult to get just right, and I seem to have a habit of flooring the accelerator and getting to at least 20 km/h in first gear! After starting it’s just a matter of changing gear before I get too fast and am revving the car too much. Stopping is different to what you would expect. In a manual you push on the brake and at about 20 km/h you push down the clutch so that you don’t stall when you do stop.
All this and more I learnt driving in circles on the Waka Clay Pan.
HOPE UR HAVING FUN!!!
